The Big lunch weekend

About The Big Lunch

The Big Lunch tradition has travelled from The Eden Project in 2009 to millions of people across the UK, all the way to the here and now in B16. On 5—6th June 2021, communities all across the UK will be coming together to celebrate their connections and get to know one another a little better, convening gently in place as we continue to navigate the ongoing effects of COVID-19 together.

The Big Lunch connects people and encourages friendlier, safer neighbourhoods where people share – from conversations and ideas, to skills and resources, and, for some, it ignites a passion for doing more good things where they live. Read more

Join us for The Big Lunch In B16

We know that it has been a particularly challenging, complex, isolating time for all the communities we are a part of, our families, neighbours, partners and friends around the city and across the world over the last 18 months, as we navigate the uncertainty, fear, grief, and ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are so grateful for an opportunity to come safely together in place, to celebrate the care, connections growing every day, despite still acknowledging the need to take responsibility for our health and the health of those around us. We acknowledge there will be a whole range of emotions amongst the joy and gratitude of togetherness. We invite you to bring these with you, and The Big Lunch weekend will be a space of processing, reflection, as well as gentle joy, relief, hope and freedom.

Whether we’ve connected with us already at The Floating Front Room or The Front Room online already, or we haven’t met before, this lunch is yours to share with your neighbours from Ladywood, Summerfield and the surrounding neighbourhoods, so please do follow your curiosity if you’d like to join us. You will be most welcome, whether on your own or in a group, with plenty of activities and conversation starters to connect with new people, or space to spend time relaxing in your own space too.

We’d love to invite you to a blend of outdoor screenings, workshops, performances and the all important lunch itself, for all ages to enjoy in the great outdoors, at the heart of our beloved city. Explore what awaits with details below, drop in 10am—4.30pm across both days to see what you will discover, and book your place for activities with more limited numbers to avoid disappointment.
