spring in your step
A floating front room update
[Tuesday 9th March 2021, 9.30am]
We hope you are keeping well, and have been able to look after yourselves as well as possible during this third lockdown. We know for many it has been a particularly difficult time, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your patience since we closed The Floating Front Room in January. As you know, this was to allow for no unnecessary additional strain on services, particularly the NHS, during a very challenging period. We’ve appreciated spending time with those of you who have paid a visit to our events and meeting places online (The Front Zoom, if you will), and those with whom we’ve connected via care package deliveries and local organising. We are deeply grateful for your continued patience and support as we stayed closed throughout January and February.
All of this, throughout the first few months of 2021, has really meant the world to us all.
We have spent the last few weeks considering really carefully how to open The Barge back up in a way that is sustainable, full of care and able to operate through the long term, as we now start to deeply build The Front Room as a neighbourhood platform, through and beyond the initial emergency and response to COVID-19 that we have navigated together.
The first iteration of The Floating Front Room was designed in response to the new position we found ourselves in due to COVID-19, and was just the most beautiful, inspiring team effort from our barista and hosting team and everyone involved. We have a number of different things to consider as we move forward now into a new chapter of organising together, including care and safety. We know vaccinations are providing a huge amount of relief and a lot of renewed hope for many, and we are feeling so grateful for those working incredibly hard to protect our families, friends and neighbours, but we are also not complacent about the future and what is ahead, by any means.
Thank you all for everything in helping to set up and build this work so far, and we are so excited about next steps with you. Here is more information about what’s next for The Floating Front Room.
On Saturday 13th March 2021, The Floating Front Room will be reopening, with new opening days of Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays in place for the foreseeable future from then on.
The core opening hours will be 10am – 2pm on these days every week, but please check back to thefrontroom.cc/boat for holidays, as these hours may be extended on special days.
As we move towards the start of Spring, we hope The Floating Front Room can be a boost and prompt to get outside for a walk, ride or roll. You are warmly invited to come along and get a comforting cup of tea or coffee, along with freshly baked delights by local bakers, as always, and this will be free each time you visit if you sign up for The Front Room Key. Whether you were a regular visitor last year or have never called in before, it would be wonderful to see you there.
We ask that you follow current government guidelines in place at the time of your visit, with details of these currently in place above, including meeting with your household, support bubble or one other person, maintaining social distancing, sanitising hands, and wearing masks where possible.
We will also be continuing online activities and distribution of Front Room Kits to anyone who needs a pick me up but isn’t able to visit us in person, so please do connect us to anyone who you think would love a special gift, or to come along to our weekly online community lunches and more.
We can’t wait to see you soon, please take care, and if you have any questions about The Floating Front Room re-opening, or anything else, please do message us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
With love from us all at The Front Room
