about the front room

The Front Room is the beginnings of an ambitious, long-term neighbourhood platform in Birmingham to be designed, grown and co-owned by local communities.

Together we want to adapt the significance of the traditional front room beyond our homes and into our neighbourhoods and commons.

More about the stories behind The Front Room coming soon.

It is a home for the first phase of CIVIC SQUARE, a public square, neighbourhood lab, and creative + participatory platform focused on regenerative civic and social infrastructure within neighbourhoods.

Based at Port Loop in B16, The Front Room is a physical place proposed as a noble environment to prototype, experiment and dream together.

the floating front room

We’ve been busy preparing to open the hatches of our current home on The Barge, moored at South Loop Park on Rotton Park Street, learning lots about hands-on canal life from a new perspective on Birmingham’s famous waterways. As a pop-up precursor to The Front Room space, we can’t wait to invite you to call in and come aboard for a cup of tea, on what we’re affectionately calling¬†The Floating Front Room.

There will be lots of ways to get involved, share your thoughts and ideas with us and find out more, including dinners, coffee mornings, and a range workshop, talks, play sessions and more to be designed out for The Floating Front Room, the surrounding park (aka The Front Lawn), as well as working alongside, supporting and hosting in locations across the wider neighbourhood too.
